Marine lubricants

Engine, gear, hydraulic and cylinder oils, greases and coolants.

Lubricants for ships, boats, ports and shipyards

Salt water, constant humidity, heavy loads and long hours make the sea one of the hardest places for a lubricant. Oils and greases on a vessel must resist water wash-out and corrosion, protect gears and bearings in rough weather, and keep deck machinery working when a repair shop is far away.

Lukeron Lubricants blends gear oils, hydraulic oils, greases, engine oils and coolants at its plant in Anandpar, Jamnagar district, Gujarat, close to the Saurashtra coast and its ports. We supply marine users and ship suppliers in drums and barrels, and we offer free samples so you can test a product first.

Where a vessel uses oil and grease

  • Auxiliary and generator diesel engines
  • Gearboxes on deck machinery, winches and cranes
  • Hydraulic systems for steering, hatch covers and deck gear
  • Stern tube, shaft and deck bearings
  • Compressors and pumps
  • Engine cooling systems

Hydraulic oil for deck machinery and steering

Winches, cranes, hatch covers and steering gear depend on hydraulic oil that protects pumps and valves, resists water and does not foam. An anti-wear (AW) oil in the grade the equipment maker specifies, often ISO VG 46 or 68, is the usual choice. Water getting in is the main enemy, so keep seals and breathers in order and check the oil for water.

Gear oil for deck gearboxes

Deck machinery gearboxes carry shock load and are exposed to damp air. They typically take an extreme-pressure (EP) gear oil of the grade the gearbox maker gives. Check the oil for water, keep seals sound, and do not mix oils.

Grease that resists water

Deck bearings and exposed fittings are washed by spray and rain. Water-resistant greases, such as a calcium sulfonate grease, stay in place under wet and heavily loaded conditions and protect against rust. Grease on a regular cycle and purge old grease.

Engine oil and coolant for auxiliary engines

Heavy-duty diesel engine oils suit many auxiliary and generator engines when they meet the engine maker's specification. A glycol coolant at the correct dilution protects the cooling system from corrosion and scale. For large marine engines, send us the engine model and the maker's specification and we will advise what we can supply.

How to choose the right lubricant

  • Start with the engine or equipment maker's manual.
  • Check any class or approval requirements your vessel has.
  • Match the viscosity grade and the performance level (AW, EP, API).
  • Ask for a sample and test it on one machine first.
  • Set a test, change and greasing plan, and keep to it.

Frequently asked questions

What hydraulic oil is used on ship deck machinery?

An anti-wear (AW) hydraulic oil, often ISO VG 46 or 68, in the grade the equipment maker specifies. Check regularly for water.

Which grease works in salt spray and wet conditions?

Water-resistant greases such as calcium sulfonate grease stay in place under wet, heavily loaded conditions. Grease on a regular cycle.

Can you supply engine oil for large marine engines?

Send us the engine model and the maker's specification. We will tell you what we can supply and what we cannot, so you do not use a wrong oil.

Can I get a sample before a bulk order?

Yes. Lukeron offers free samples to garages, OEMs and industries. Send your enquiry and we will arrange it.

How do I order marine lubricants?

Send your equipment list, quantity and delivery location. We pack in drums and barrels and reply within 1 to 2 business days. For urgent needs, call or WhatsApp +91 73832 79438.
