Sugar lubricants

Gear oils, turbine oils and compressor oils built for crushing season.

Lubricants for sugar mills, crushing season and cogeneration

A sugar mill runs almost non-stop through the crushing season, so every gearbox, bearing and turbine has to last a long, continuous run. Cane mills carry some of the heaviest loads in industry, and the plant is hot, wet and sticky. A failure in season is costly, because cane cannot wait.

Lukeron Lubricants blends gear oils, turbine oils, hydraulic oils and greases at its plant in Anandpar, Jamnagar district, Gujarat. We supply sugar mills in drums and barrels, and we offer free samples so you can test a product before the season starts.

Where a sugar mill uses oil and grease

  • Cane crusher and mill drive gearboxes
  • Open gears and mill drive pinions
  • Steam turbines and generators in the cogeneration plant
  • Hydraulic systems for mill roller pressure and controls
  • Pumps, fans, centrifugal machines and conveyors
  • Air compressors and general plant bearings

Gear oil for cane crusher and mill drives

Mill drive gearboxes take very high torque for months without a break. They usually need an extreme-pressure (EP) gear oil in a high viscosity grade, often ISO VG 220, 320 or higher. A full synthetic EP gear oil is sometimes chosen for long drain intervals and high temperature. Follow the gearbox manual, keep water and juice out, and check the oil level and temperature every shift.

Grease for open gears, chains and bearings

Open gears, chains and slides are exposed to water, juice and dust, so grease can wash out or be contaminated quickly. A sticky, high-load grease, including grades with graphite, helps stay on the surface. Re-lubricate more often in wet areas and clean off old, dirty grease first.

Turbine oil for the cogeneration plant

Many sugar mills make their own power with steam turbines. Turbine oil circulates through bearings and governor systems for years, so it must resist oxidation, release water and air, and protect against rust. Common grades are ISO VG 32 and 46. Test the oil on a schedule and keep it clean.

Hydraulic oil for mill controls

Roller pressure control and other mill hydraulics typically use an anti-wear (AW) hydraulic oil in ISO VG 46 or 68. Keep filters clean and the oil dry, because water and dirt cut valve and pump life.

Get ready before the season

  • Drain, flush and refill the major gearboxes.
  • Inspect and replace seals and breathers.
  • Test turbine and hydraulic oil, and replace any that has aged.
  • Re-grease all bearings and open drives.
  • Stock enough oil and grease for the whole season.

How to choose the right lubricant

  • Start with the machine maker's manual.
  • Note the load, temperature, water and juice exposure.
  • Match the viscosity grade and the performance level (AW, EP).
  • Ask for a sample and test it on one machine first.
  • Set a change and greasing plan, and keep to it.

Frequently asked questions

Which gear oil is used on cane crusher gearboxes?

Mill drive gearboxes usually take an extreme-pressure (EP) gear oil in a high viscosity grade, often ISO VG 220 or 320. Check your gearbox manual first. Send us the model and operating temperature and we will suggest a grade.

What turbine oil do sugar mill turbines use?

Common grades are ISO VG 32 and 46, depending on the turbine maker's advice. Test the oil on a schedule and keep it clean and dry.

When should I order lubricants for the crushing season?

Plan before the season starts, so gearboxes and bearings are serviced and stock is on site. Send us your list early and we will confirm quantities.

Can I get a sample before a bulk order?

Yes. Lukeron offers free samples to garages, OEMs and industries. Send your enquiry and we will arrange it.

How do I order for a sugar mill?

Send your equipment list, quantity and location. We pack in drums and barrels and reply within 1 to 2 business days. For urgent needs, call or WhatsApp +91 73832 79438.
